More of the Spirit

DMI Global Gathering Day 4 Report: More of the Spirit

The theme of Day 4 was looking up to God for a greater filling of His Spirit. Each participant cried out to God for the anointing and power we need to do the work He has called us to as disciples who make disciples. We heard movement leaders’ stories about the power of the Spirit at work in the movements DMI has already started, and our first speaker, a leader from Southeast Asia, inspired us with stories from the field and the need to believe God for even more to happen among the least-reached people of her region.

More of the Spirit as We Praise, Worship, and Dance Before Him

The joy of the Lord filled the room where we met as our Kenyan and Nigerian worship team led us in praise to God. The Spirit of the Lord was truly among us, releasing fresh power and love among us.

Calling the audience to participate, it was common throughout the gathering for the worship leaders to be joined on stage by many from the audience who came to dance alongside them (even many from the West, with their “heavy feet” were welcomed).

Watch & Pray: The Time is Now

Joseph Chikopa, a movement leader and trainer from Southern Africa, shared a powerful message with us about the need to both watch and pray. Observing where God is at work among the people we are called to reach, learning their culture and language, and understanding their ways was a compelling theme. He also challenged, in a unique African way, the use of titles and status and spoke of how God’s Spirit is upon ordinary, common people, to do the work of the ministry.

Leaders Commissioned

Following Joseph’s message, we prayed over the newly appointed Africa Regional leadership for DMI as well as the South Asia team and our new Course Manager. God is raising up indigenous teams of leaders to take DMI’s work forward in various regions of the world, and we look forward to seeing this continue and grow even more.

Bill Smith (affectionately called Grandpa Bill) debriefed Movement Stories

A highlight of the gathering was the chance to learn from the many movement leaders present. Our advisor and mentor, Bill, unpacked these stories, drawing out movement principles for everyone to apply.

Prayer and Seeking the Lord

Throughout the day, there were times of praying and seeking the Lord for a greater touch of His Spirit upon us.

Discussion on DMI Values

As we did every day, we ended our day with a lively discussion about two more of our DMI values.

Particularly interesting to many was the DMI value of work and rest and the importance of taking time for the Sabbath. This is not something that many leaders in the Global South have practiced. Learning from one another on this key Biblical principle and command was vitally important.

Everyone left Day 4 knowing they had met with God and with fresh hope for the days to come!
