DMI Global Gathering Day 5 Report: Looking Forward to the Frontiers

The final day of the Global Gathering was an amazing time of looking forward to what God was calling us to do in the next season. Our hearts were stirred and on fire to take the good news of Jesus to the unreached and unengaged people groups of the world and to focus our efforts on Frontier Peoples. From Day 1 of our gathering, we had profiles of Frontier Peoples and Unengaged groups displayed on the walls of the conference hall. God had already been stirring us to see the movements already started, to focus attention on these groups, and to launch new teams among them.

Some Definitions

According to the Joshua Project, an unengaged people group is one where there are no known efforts focused on establishing self-sustaining churches consistent with evangelical faith and practice.

A Frontier People Group is:

  • an Unreached People Group (UPG)
  • with virtually no followers of Jesus and
  • no known movements to Jesus,
  • still needing pioneer cross-cultural workers.

Joshua Project approximates Frontier People Groups as:

  • no confirmed, sustained movement.

DMI Leader, Cynthia Anderson, Challenged Us to Look Forward With Faith

She called us not to be satisfied with the tremendous growth we have seen already, but to look to the millions around us that remain untouched by the gospel. Returning to her message that opened the conference, she reminded us that we serve a “God of the More Than All.” He loves all peoples and wants all to be saved. We have a great responsibility now, as God has placed much in our hands. We must mobilize our resources to ensure that all will have a chance to hear of His love.

She then outlined a process with 6 stages we can follow as we adopt the unreached groups He is calling us to.

Next, the participants prayed at the walls and sought the Lord’s direction. When they sensed God calling them to adopt a particular group, they removed it from the wall and took it to a table in the back, where these adoptions were recorded.

God was powerfully speaking, stirring our hearts both to pray, give and go to those who have yet to hear about His great love.

Pray for more laborers to go to the harvest fields!

Ask with us for God to raise up many more people to adopt UUPGs and FPGs, and that the movements begun will become a great missionary force reaching and seeing movements start in every group and region of the world!

In the end, we had 69 groups that were adopted for engagement and more that were taken for prayer. Glory be to God!

Joining Hands in Unity

God released a sense of great unity and purpose among us, around the cause of making Jesus known to all peoples and in all places. Joining hands, we prayed for God to help us be faithful to this call.

Wrapping Up with Celebration and Joy

There was great rejoicing, laughter, hugs, and expressions of love as we departed. The DMI family had grown in our love for Jesus and love for one another in these days. We had been strengthened, inspired, challenged, and sent out by our Lord Jesus to new harvest fields. God met with us so powerfully, and we departed looking forward to the next time God might make it possible for us to meet again. May He be glorified! He has indeed done great things among us, and there is much more up ahead!

Until the next time! May God lead us forward each step of the way into even greater harvest, fruitfulness, and hundreds of new movements across the globe!
